Who we are Info Nordirland / Baskenland is the bilingual information portal of the German Ireland Solidarity. We also provide information on conflict resolution in the Basque Country. North of Ireland: We support conflict resolution in the North of Ireland. The implementation of the Good Friday Agreement is central to the conflict resolution process and is endorsed by an overwhelming majority of the people in Ireland. The agreement, which was signed in 1998 by all parties to the conflict - the British and Irish government, the parties in the North of Ireland - shall secure the changes towards democracy and justice, which are already seen in every days life. We support this process by keeping pressure upon the responsible politicians and working on media support. People in the North of Ireland should not be kept away any longer from the elementary human right to live in peace, democracy and justice. Our campaign is not bound to a certain political group nor to a certain profession. International solidarity is one of our basic principles. Living in Europe we feel responsible for developing Europe in a way that it's acting and seen as a region where real democracy, peace and justice prevail within Europe and in dealing with other countries. The conflict resolution process in the North of Ireland has brought valuable experience for other conflict regions who try to find a way to end their conflict. But the conflict in Ireland has also shown how far supposedly democratic states go in disenfranchising its people or in violently attacking them in the name of what they call security interests. On an international basis we work within the campaign Save the Good Friday Agreement. Within Germany we are activ members of the German-Ireland-Solidarity, an overregional group of different Ireland groups, members of human rights organisations and individuals. Euskal Herria / Basque Country: working within the Ireland Solidarity Movement we were aware of activities to initiate a conflict resolution process for the Basque-Spanish conflict as well. It's outrageous that the Spanish government shut down this process and replaced dialog of all conflict parties by violent oppression of the Basque independence movement through mass arrests, torture, banning of grassroot organisations, newspapers and parties. We therefore started in autumn 2007 to cover this issue as well on our website and within our activities. We joined Euskal Herriaren Lagunal - friends of the Basque Country.
