Declaration of ETA 20.10.2011 |
ETA, socialist revolutionary Basque organisation of national liberation, desires through this declaration
to announce its decision:
ETA considers that the international conference held recently in the Euskal Herria [Basque Country] is an
initiative of great political transcendence. The agreed resolution brings together the ingredients for an
integrated solution to the conflict and has the support of large sectors of Basque society and of the
international community.
In Euskal Herria, a new political age is opening. We face a historic opportunity to obtain a just and
democratic solution to the age-old political conflict.

Spanish National Court (Audiencia Nacional) rules against Arnaldo Otegi, Rafa Diez, Miren Zabaleta, Arkaitz Rodriquez and Sonia Jacinto 16.09.2011 | Basque Info
The Spanish National Court has sentenced Otegi and Diez (who is on bail) to ten years of prison each, Miren Zabaleta, Arkaitz Rodriquez and
Sonia Jacinto to eight years each.
This new judicial attack has to be understood in the current situation as an attack on the ongoing process and as an attempt to put obstacles for its development. This process is unstoppable and this kind of juridical actuation can only be understood as an attempt to slow down its development, trying to weaken the Abertzale Left and introducing juridical affaires on the political arena.

Statement on the detention of seven members of Askapena 28.09.2010 | Euskal Herriaren Lagunak - Friends of the Basque Country Germany
We were horrified this morning hearing the news about the detention of seven political activists of the Basque organisation Askapena.
For decades Askapena has been active promoting international solidarity, in Latin America and elsewhere. On the other hand Askapena organizes solidarity for the Basque Country. We are collaborating with Askapena in this, for example with an annual Week of Solidarity with the Basque Country, organized by Askapena on a world wide basis.

Gerry Adams calls for release of Arnaldo Otegi July 18, 2010 | Sinn Féin News, July 15, 2010 Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has called on the Spanish Government to release Basque Nationalist Leader Arnaldo Otegi.
Gerry Adams said that Arnaldo Otegi's continued imprisonment made building a peace process in the Basque country more
difficult:
"The continued imprisonment of Basque nationalist leader Arnaldo Otegi is not only undemocratic, but flies in the face of the most basic principles of conflict resolution. Arnaldo was arrested and imprisoned in October 2009 with other members of the Basque independence movement including Rafa Diez former secretary general of the trade union LAB. Having been in the Basque Country many times and knowing Arnaldo personally I am convinced that his primary political aim is to bring about a democratic and peaceful resolution to the conflict between the Basque Country and France and Spain. read more >> Nobel Peace Laureates support conflict resolution in the Basque Country Brussels, March 29, 2010 Four Nobel Peace Laureates, the South-African bishop Desmond Tutu as well as John Hume, long time leader of the SDLP in the North of Ireland, President of Ireland Mary Robinson, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and other international leading figures declare their support for the peace- and conflict resolution initiative of the Basque left wing independence movement ... read more >> Impressions from Sinn Féin's Ard Fheis (party conference) in Dublin March 13, 2010 The annual Ard Fheis (party conference) of the Irish Republican party Sinn Féin took place on March 5.-6., 2010 in Dublin. As republicanism has an special understandign in Irish context, abertzale could not be translated as mere nationalism without understanding this progresist roll |
