Declaration from Ireland Solidarity Groups in Germany
STOP THE WAR - NOW !
13. Januar 2003
In view of the wars which have been announced, above all against Iraq, we
cannot remain silent.
We are conscious of the fact that the approaching war
is not a "war for human rights" nor is it a "war against terrorism". The
states, USA and Great Britain, which are forcing this war are not the
guarantors for the implementation of human rights. Great Britain's long and
"dirty war" in Ireland and the worldwide support of the USA for numerous
terrorist states and authoritarian rulers is proof of this.
We are aware
that is the desire to attain control of the tremendous oil reserves in the
region which is the real reason behind the war. The greed of the US American
and British oil companies are dictating the course of events.
We know that
due to the economic embargo the Iraqi population has already been suffering
for many years now, but not, however, Saddam Hussein's ruling clique. As
unequivocal supporters of the peace process in Ireland we demand that all
diplomatic measures be applied with the aim of avoiding military conflict.
We demand of the Federal government that it rejects all initiatives in the
UN Security Council for military action, that all German soldiers stationed
in that region be withdrawn immediately and that the use of German airspace
and landing rights be denied to the waring powers.
The friends of independence and sovereignty for Ireland recommend
participation in the activities of the peace movement, and, in addition,
call for participation in the main anti-war demonstration in Berlin on 15
February 2003.
